Originally, there were five principles given in 1871 through the mediumship of Emma Hardinge-Britten (1823-1899), in a message from the Spirit of social activist Robert Owen (1771-1858), the founder of the Co-operative movement.
Later they were changed to The Seven Principles that we know today giving a better understanding of them. They are now generally accepted and used by most Spiritualists throughout the world.
