Words of Inspiration II

A Little Mixed Up

Dear Friend,

Just a line to say I'm living,
that I'm not among the dead,

Though I'm getting more forgetful
and mixed up in the head.

I got used to my arthritis,
to my dentures I'm resigned,

I can manage my bifocals,
but Lord, how I miss my mind!!!

Sometimes I can't remember
when I stand at the foot of the stairs,

If I must go up for something
or if I've just come down from there.

I stand before the fridge at times,
my poor mind filled with doubt,

Have I come to put food away,
or come to take some out?

There are times when it is dark out
and with my nightcap on my head,

I don't know if I'm retiring,
or just getting out of bed.

So if it's my turn to write to you,
there's no need for getting sore,

I may think that I have written
and don't want to be a bore.

I do know that I miss you
and wish that you were near,

And now it's nearly mail time
so I must say goodbye, my dear.

Now I'm standing beside the mail box
with a face so very red,

Instead of mailing you my letter,
I have opened it instead!!!

Cree Indian Prophecy

Only after the Last Tree has been cut down,
Only after the Last River has been poisoned,
Only after the Last Fish has been caught,
Only then will you find that
Money Cannot Be Eaten.

Yesterday is but a dream and tomorrow is only a vision,
but today well spent makes every yesterday a dream of happiness
and every tomorrow a vision of hope.

These lovely words were chosen for inclusion on the inside back cover of our hymn book.

A Celtic Blessing

May you always be genuine,
May you always be true,
May you do unto others
As you would wish them do unto you.
May you always be humble,
May you always do your best.
May you be accepting of others,
And see God in the guest.
May you always be giving,
May you always be understanding,
May you always be caring,
And lend a helping hand.
May you always be compassionate,
May you always inspire.
May God’s strength always fill you
When you falter and tire.
May you always be loving,
And have courage too,
May your heart remain open,
And a teacher to you.
May your faith grow more daily,
And when cold winds blow,
May love’s fire in your heart,
Ever keep you aglow.
May you always see value,
Of being still for a while.
And may others be blest,
By the warmth of your smile.

The mayonnaise jar and the coffee.

When things in your life seem almost too much to handle, when 24 hours in a day are not enough, remember the mayonnaise jar......and the coffee.

A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, wordlessly he picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was.

So the professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was.

The professor then picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with a unanimous “yes!”

The professor then produced two cups of coffee from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar, effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed.

“Now,” said the professor as the laughter subsided, “I want you to recognise that this jar represents your life. The golf balls are the important things - your family, your children, your health, your friends and your favourite passions - things that if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full. The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house, and your car. The sand is everything else - the small stuff.”

“If you put the sand into the jar first,” he continued, “there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have room for the things that are important to you. Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Play with your children. Take time to get medical checkups. Take your partner out to dinner. Play a round of golf. There will always be time to clean the house and put the rubbish bin out.”
“Take care of the golf balls first, the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand.”

One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the coffee represented. The professor smiled. “I’m glad you asked that. It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there’s always room for a cup of coffee with a friend.”

This was written by 19-year-old Kent Keith in a motivation booklet for high school counselors published while he was a student at Harvard in 1966. In 2002 Kent was the communications director at the Honolulu YMCA.

People are often unreasonable,
illogical and self-centered;
Forgive them anyway.
If you are kind,
People may accuse you
of selfish, ulterior motives;
Be Kind anyway.
If you are successful,
you will win some false friends and
some true enemies;
Succeed anyway, people may cheat you;
Be honest and frank anyway.
What you spend years building,
someone could destroy overnight;
Build anyway
If you find serenity and happiness,
they may be jealous;
Be happy anyway.
The good you do today,
people will often forget tomorrow;
Do good anyway.
Give the world the best you have,
and it may never be enough;
Give the world the best you've got anyway.
You see, in the final analysis.
it’s between you and God;
It is never between you and them anyway.

Little eyes see a lot.

Author Unknown

When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw you hang my first painting on the refrigerator, and I immediately wanted to paint another one.

When you thought I wasn't looking I saw you feed a stray cat, and I learned that it was good to be kind to animals.

I saw you make my favourite cake for me and I learned that the little things can be the special things in life.

I heard you say a prayer, and I knew there is a God I could always talk to and I learned to trust in God.

I saw you make a meal and take it to a friend who was sick, and I learned that we all have to help to take care of each other.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw you give of your time and money to help people who had nothing and I learned that those who have something should give to those who haven't.

I saw you take care of our house and everyone in it and I learned we have to take care of what we are given.

I saw how you handled your responsibilities, even when you didn't feel good and I learned that I would have to be responsible when I grow up.

I saw tears come from your eyes and I learned that sometimes things hurt, but it's all right to cry.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw that you cared and I wanted to be everything that I could be.

I learned most of life's lessons that I need to know to be a good and productive person when I grow up.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I looked at you and wanted to say, "Thank you for all the things I saw when you thought I wasn't looking."

At a recent computer expo (COMDEX), Bill Gates reportedly compared the computer industry with the auto industry and stated, 'If General Motors had kept up with technology like the computer industry has, we would all be driving $25.00 cars that get 1,000 miles to the gallon.'

In response to Bill's comments, General Motors, allegedly, issued a press release stating:

If GM had developed technology like Microsoft, we would all be driving cars with the following characteristics:

1. For no reason whatsoever, your car would crash........ twice a day.

2. Every time they repainted the lines on the road, you would have to buy a new car.

3. Occasionally your car would die on the freeway for no reason. You would have to pull to the side of the road, close all of the windows, shut off the car, restart it, and reopen the windows before you could continue. For some reason you would simply accept this.

4. Occasionally, executing a manoeuvre such as a left turn would cause your car to shut down and refuse to restart, in which case you would have to reinstall the engine.

5. Macintosh would make a car that was powered by the sun, was reliable, five times as fast and twice as easy to drive - but would run on only five percent of the roads.

6. The oil, water temperature, and alternator warning lights would all be replaced by a single 'This Car Has Performed An Illegal Operation' warning light.

7. The airbag system would ask 'Are you sure?' before deploying.

8. Occasionally, for no reason whatsoever, your car would lock you out and refuse to let you in until you simultaneously lifted the door handle, turned the key and grabbed hold of the radio antenna.

9. Every time a new car was introduced car buyers would have to learn how to drive all over again because none of the controls would operate in the same manner as the old car.

10. You'd have to press the 'Start' button to turn the engine OFF.

Spirituality poem

By an unknown author

When I come to the end of the road

And the sun has set for me.

I want no rites in a gloom filled room,

Why cry for a soul set free?

Miss me a little, but not too long

And not with your head bowed low

Remember the love that we once shared,

Miss me, but let me go.

For this is a journey that we all must take

And each must go alone.

It's all part of the Master's plan

A step on the road to home.

When you are lonely and sick at heart

Go to the friends we know

And bury your sorrows in doing good deeds

Miss me, but let me go.
